Telling Her Story
Updated: Jan 19, 2018
Tell me the facts and I'll learn. Tell me the truth and I'll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever. - old Native American Proverb
It’s our mission, right? We’ve got to raise our voices. Together. And when our sisters aren’t able to speak up we’ve got to BE their voices by telling their stories.
I like to think that I’m a story champion. I like hearing people’s unique triumphs, and sometimes tragedies and then weaving the common threads between the ordinary and extraordinary. When someone shares their story with me and it’s something I feel others can learn from or reflect on I’m compelled to tell it.
In conversations, I like to stop people in their tracks if I feel that they didn’t get a message and say “did you hear what that person just said? Do you know what they’ve been through?” And I think it’s important to tell the good, the bad and the ugly. The sad stories are sacred and sometimes cautionary, the happy stories are uplifting. All are validating.
This is why Brick House Sparrows has decided to launch a new line called “Telling Her Story.”
We have the privilege to hear from women from all over. Each has their own unique story.
Each is filled with beauty, honesty, and truth.
Each needs to be told. #wordsmatter
